INVISIBLE

I wished I was invisible
Walking by the mean old dog.
I wished I was invisible
Disappearing in a fog.

I wished I was invisible
When scolded by the teacher.
I wished I was invisible
When laughed at by the preacher.

I wished I was invisible
Walking to my home at night.
I wished I was invisible
Hurrying to reach the light.

I wished I was invisible
When I didn’t want to try.
I wished I was invisible
So you wouldn’t see me cry.

But wishing didn’t make it so.
It didn’t take me long to know.
I have to be just who I am,
Reveal myself, not be a scam.

And now, I hold my head up high.
I look you squarely in the eye.
You don’t begin to know this child
Who’s full of strength, who’s bold, but mild.
